The furnishings for the University Place promenade — or the Einhorn Family Walk, as it was recently named — are going to be replaced with ones that will make better use of the large space.

The construction update briefed attendees on various projects that are either underway or coming up in the near future for Syracuse University campus on Wednesday morning.

The siding of the Center for Science and Technology has been replaced and the exhaust stack was finished last week. The project is currently in its final stages and will wrap up in coming weeks.

Replacing the stairs of Sims Hall was delayed because a special order of granite had to be ordered as tread for the stairs. A snow-melting system is being installed inside the stairs and is about 80 percent complete. It is scheduled to be finished next week.

Repairing the stairs at the Irving Garage will begin shortly, as bids from contractors have been received.

Three dorms are having their bathrooms renovated over the summer. Day Hall’s full-bathroom renovations are to be completed over the course of summer 2017 and 2018. Remaining bathrooms in DellPlain and Haven halls will be completed this upcoming summer.

At White Hall, screening of the mechanical equipment on the roof is underway.

A new single bathroom is being installed on the second floor of the Goldstein Student Center, which should be completed in a few months. The six entryways to Goldstein are all having their doors replaced and as of last week, four of them have already been completed. The west entry will have its door replaced next week and the main entrance will have its doors replaced over Thanksgiving break to minimize disturbances. The new doors will be lighter than what is currently in place.

Construction on the east side of Link Hall will finish in November. The construction team stated there have been numerous delays, but they are confident it will be finished by November.

Numerous problems have been encountered in the construction of the Falk College Cafe. Among them is the exhaust system in the kitchen. The new cafe was scheduled to open in October, but has now been pushed to November.

Crouse-Hinds Hall’s air handler system has now been replaced. All of the necessary replacement equipment has been put into place.

The replacement of the Commissary Building roof, which has been underway for some time, is about 75 percent complete.

The demolition of Hoople Hall will begin in either late October or early November to make way for the new National Veterans Resource Complex, which is expected to be finished in summer 2019. Construction on the new complex is slated to begin in the spring.

SU is looking into alternative restroom signage for the bathrooms around campus. A vote will be held on the different types of signs online and anybody is welcome to vote. The website for voting will be launched in the coming days.

The furnishings for the University Place promenade — or the Einhorn Family Walk, as it was recently named — are going to be replaced with ones that will make better use of the large space. An open vote is also being held with the four options being posted online. Each option will have a picture and an explanation of what it will look like. The team is hoping to have the website launched tomorrow.

The construction team has monthly meetings that are open for anybody to attend.
